Dr. Koanantakool's research field is in electronics and information technology. As the Executive Deputy Director of the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), he led the early development of the Internet in Thailand in 1992, through the establishment of the first Thai Social, Academic and Research Network (ThaiSarn). In 1995, he co-founded the first internet service provider, Internet Thailand Company Limited. Appointed as Executive Director of NECTEC in 1998, Dr. Koanantakool also served as Executive Secretary of the National Information Technology Committee (NITC) which released the first national ICT master plan (2002-2006) in 2002. During 2006-2010, he was Executive Vice President of NSTDA looking after the spin offs operation of the NSTDA's technology transfer mission.
