Entrepreneurship RELOAD - Crowdfunding IGNITES future for startups and innovators
Crowdfunding has been around for the longest time, term used were simply different and people will rallying people for support for a cause or for an idea or even for a business start up. Today, crowdfunding were defined by four different flavors by the crowd.
- Donation based
- Reward exchange based
- Equity based "recently US approved and released their support"
- Peer to Peer lending or Peer to Business Lending based
Well pitch in US, Canada, UK and even ANZ about a decade or so...but in Asia, it is not popular simply it was just a business to some and registered as web portal business. It is not so as an industry.
People turn to crowdfunding for many reasons; recently to US platform like Kickstarters, Indiegogo, CrowdFundme or local players like Crowdonomic and recent entry Pozible an Australian firm decide to start their presence in Singapore for they believe Crowdfunding is an industry worth driving - Singapore being a developed IT savvy open community is the way to go to jump start across Asia.
Who will turn to Crowdfunding? Many! Why? They simply believe in their ideas and they want options to reach out to people in the world who offers a consideration without them having to dance and song to venture capitalist and banks. Every of these campaigners have a business plan, vision, intention and many may not have the best skill to show to VC and as startup or existing business they may not have a house for mortgage to get loans from Banks.
Singapore Infocomm Development Authority "IDA" recently release a consulting paper for Infocomm Media in 2025 in continuation of iN2015 under clause 5.2.1 to establish a "Self-Sustaining Start-up Ecosystem"
http://www.mci.gov.sg/content/mcicorp/web/mci/infocomm_media_masterplan.html that allows Singapore ICM start-ups to tap on the expertise, nework and investments from influential investors. One of the idea being explored is to develop a trusted equity crowdfunding hub. Above that, they are exploring the use of tax incentives to encourage savvy private investors to invest in promising startups that Singapore want to groom. Singapore is taking reference from SEIS http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/seedeis/
